The MRI Scan Centre at Lourdes Hospital was Inaugurated by      The Chief Minister Shri. Oommen Chandy on 7th August 2011      at 3.30pm.

Though the public function was cancelled due to the demise of the former patron Archbishop Emeritus Dr. Cornelius Elanjickal, The CM visited the hospital paid homage to the late Archbishop. He was received at entrance by the Director Fr. Sabu Nedunilath and Others in the management along with the Medical personnel’s.

INDIA’S 1st MOBILITY TOTAL ANKLE REPLACEMENT

India's first three component mobility Total Ankle Replacement was done in Lourdes Hospital, Ernakulam , Kerala by Lourdes Orthopaedic  Surgeon Dr.John Thayyil John and his Team.

Total ankle replacement Surgery is performed in Western countries for the last 10 years.  We did the first case of Total Mobility Ankle replacement  implant system in India.  This surgery was done at   Lourdes Hospital,  by Dr.John Thayyil  John,  Dr.Peter, Dr.Jeevan, Dr.Nilesh, Anesthetist Dr.Lucy and team,  in a 51 year old woman who was suffering from  secondary osteoarthritis of ankle with pain,  and restriction of ankle movement for last 6 years.

TAR is   done by using the precise instrumentation and removing the worn out joint surfaces and replacing it with the artificial joint made of metal and plastic implant prosthesis system.  Patient was in the hospital for 4 days post operatively and discharged. Patient will start full weight bearing ambulation after 6 weeks. This is the cement less press fit surgery which gives the painless better ankle movements.
